Who’s a perv? I’m a perv thats who! yes I wanted to try out one of these 9 dollar skins from decal girl and the half naked sexy girl skin was the one for me!
After idgit getting the PSP skin, I decided to try for the DS skin, Didn’t really need it, I more so wanted to see how it looked and try it out on my DS lite to review here! So i paid the 9.99 and 2.50 shipping and waited 5 days and now I have the skin!
The Skin came inside a stiff white envelope as pictured here!
Inside was the simple packaging with the skin inside.. Okay at first glance, it doesnt feel like 9 bucks worth, but I guess nothing is cheap now a days..
First impressions are the printing isn’t too bad, but on the lower part of the… well.. breast.. you can see in the outdoor pic at the bottom, there is a shading issue, like the colors dont fade into each other smoothly.. I would have hoped for a little bit better.. But the rest of it seems to blend just fine.. Lets get to applying it..
The first thing I notice when peeling it up is that it really feels alot like duct tape! Heck it even LOOKS like it!
Yes it is actually semi sticky on the bottom, it doesnt feel the same as the screen protectors (by hori for instance) it definately feels tape like, and if you mana to let the skin fold over and stick to itself you’ll play a bit of hell getting it seperated with out tearing it i assume.
The worst part of peeling this skin off its packaging is that the tiny little holes for speakers and such do not stay put. The reason for this is they are not ‘punched out’ instead they are circle cut 99% of the way around. I say 99% becuase there is one little tiny bit thats not cut and when you go punch these out and pull them off, you will more than likely be pulling this little peice , if you aren’t careful you can make a tear in your skin, tho generally all of mine came out without issue. you wont have a perfectly circular hole, you will have a tiny nitch in the hole where this ‘peice’ of skin broke/ripped off, tho its generally very tiny and not very noticable, but hey, WE ARE PICKY ASS GAMER! we mention all the pickies!
Poking out the holes works better if you have a tiny pointed object, such as a philips head screwdriver to hold them down as you peel the skin off, you’ll have to actually grab them with your fingers and rip them off tho once you have them ‘punched out’ becuase of that little peice of skin that isn’t cut.
After that was done, fitting was started.. The outside of the ds was nearly effortless, just get your anal tendacies out of the way and line it up then put it down! This is the really cool part of the skin, what feels very thick and generally you’d asume to be resistant, went on well, it DOES stick hard and if you don’t position it the way you want you’ll have to pry it up and its quite sticky, BUT the best part is, after you have it lined up perfeclty, somehow, this thing allows you to push the bubbles out very easily, its almost like they dissapear, I didn’t have to push any bubbles all the way to the edge in order for the air to escape, it just… disappeared, some how?.. Also it really gets every nook and cranny, you can see how my ds logo is completely viewable!
It’s almost like it was painted on, it really ahears very well to every little place, i was afriad at first you wouldn’t be able to see the logo, not a problem at all! it bumps up the skin perfectly!
The inside top one wasn’t that bad.. But i did notice that the speaker holes in the skin, when lined up with holes on the ds, on the left side, did not line up so perfectly on the right side.. But the top one went on easy. At first i was afriad i was loosing some of my top screen to the protector, but i think it just hugs around it very tightly, i think i have 100% screen realiestate there, you just loose the ‘boarder’ around the screen.
The bottom section of the lite, the buttons and such, was MUCH more troublesome.. Again when the skin seemed to go around the buttons well, it did not seem to line up with the start and select buttons well, and the cross pad on the other side of the ds, did not line up so well. I had a small peice of the skin kind of hanging down into the crevice of the controll pad, so i could feel it when i pushed the controll pad ‘up’. I tried to slice a bit off with my x-acto knife, tho its very difficult on the ds. so i took it off and shaved a tiny bit off with a card board backing. This alievated the problem a tiny bit, but did not solve it all the way. Ultimately I believe the issue is , these skins are not cut exactly perfect for the ds.. I had to try to even it out, and then i came up with alot of extra slack up on the top of the screen and below the screen, on the thin part of the skin. I had to try to equal it out again.. ultimately i spent about 25 minutes just trying to get this one ‘perfect’ which ultimately could never be quite attained, but i got it the best i can..
After having it positioned, I pushed down hard, and again it adhered to everythign well, all bumps and everything show through just fine. Espcially ones where you see a peice of hair or thick dust has stuck to the skin, and now you’re screwed cuz you CANNOT get it off, so you’ll have a permenent little bump in the skin.. oh well thems the breaks..
Here’s the pics of the finished product.. Also i must stress my camera is pushing the colors a bit, its not this colorful in real life, I was a bit dissapointed at that. There is also a few pics of it outside, which is a little closer to it’s real color, but even then its still not how it really looks in real life, it is a bit more washed out, and even has almost a slight greenish tint to it.. I wished it was a bit more ‘warm’ colored like it shows up in these pictures your viewing but the truth is, its more dissapointing in real life
So in the end I gotta say, I’m not MAD about the whole situation. I do feel however, that 9 dollars is too much for what I paid. The only thing that pleased me was how the material layed flat and was able to push out air really well (almost like the skin breaths).. Maybe if i had gotten a cool blue/space/sky skin instead of the naked chick, I might not have had an issue with the color.. Can’t be sure.. I feel these skins should run about 5 bucks.. MAYBE 7.. but 9 just feels a tad high… If decalgirl wants to send me a different sample which shows how much better the color reproduction can be, Maybe i’d be inclined to say it was worth the 9 dollars, but I just dont feel the fit/color quality is all there.. for protection, well its only protecting certain parts of my ds, lets face it, its not really protecting much… So i can’t say its worth it on that realm either..
I’m not sure as i didnt check before i put it on, but the DS seems like it doesnt quite close as much with the skin on, tho only a picky amount :).. See this pic.
Summary: The skin is cut a little loose around the buttons, It doesnt line up perfectly on both sides of the screen ( you’ll have to sacrafice a bit on one side). The color reproduction is NOT as good as in my pictures, its very washed out and kind of greenishly tinted. (i’ll get a better digital camera in a week and show). You’ll spend a while trying to get it on there perfectly. Its 9 bucks which I feel is a TAD high for what they offer. But in the end it does let you make a bold statement with your DS if you are a pervy sage! Ala me! My verdict is….
6.5/10
If you got nothing better to spend 9 bucks on, or you really just like naked girlies!

WOO NEKKID CHIX!!! Sarah likes em too.
Still investigating why some of the pictures are breaking.
I blame it on sony Trying to knock the DS down a peg
Thanks for information.
