Well like you can tell i enjoy hunting games except for the last cabela’s hunting Game (Trophy Bucks) witch… really really sucked. So i was really scared about buying this game. But we have a job to our readers So i bought the game. Let’s get the verdict if it’s good or bad?
Basics :
This game as basic as games come your a Hunter thier the prey. You have cougers , bears , elk , deer , rams and lions. they send you to locations suchs as vancouver bristsh coulumbia and places like africa there is 48 types of species of animals 24 big game trophys and then you have dangerous animals that will try and get you. you follow the story of a hunter and his legendary quest for the big trophys.
Controls :… The lack of heh they take a bit to get used to personal i had to change the layout to 3rd setting because they had the left button when you pressed it in to go to the weapons. not good when your being attacked by a bear and trying to switch weapons quickly. it’s almost a must to change it other then that it’s not to bad to get used to regular controls as for most 360 games
Gameplay :
It plays rather well but it’s more like be lead then playing a sandbox like most of the time. usally they let you run around picking your tags and letting you pick what you need to take care of. It pretty much makes you walk up to an area shows you the objectives you complete have optional objectives (Water fowls) they also added a mini game in to the game when walking across logs or climbing when you press the right combation quick enough you climb quicker and don’t fall. same goes to the trophys if you are a quick shot and take one before they leave your treated to a encounter with a dangerious animal (some of the quests do this but not all) it played about the same as african sarfari from last year. allowing you to change weapons on the fly not many guns to choose from tho.
Graphics :
This game looked so much better animations have been updated and look a lot better. trees and bushes look very nice close up. the game has some major flaw’s such as draw distance when you see trees or bushes from a far they look like a old 286 graphic file from 10 years ago. once you get closer the detail kicks in. water effects are really nice they did a nice job on them water looks pretty darn good better then i expected. Like i said the game does have some flaws the graphics slow the gameplay down a great deal such as in montana when walking around in the heavly forest area the game chugs and lags badly and the animations don’t always work i spoted many animals running across the screen but thier animation were not even moving. it really does take away from the whole expeerance of the hunting. birds look pretty good deers and elk and bears are nicely detailed models. you can tell animals apart a lot easier in this game then it was in let’s say african safari or trophy bucks most of those animals tended to look the same but not in this game you can tell with the body models what animal is what. the models are right in size elks are massive compair to let’s say a mule buck.
Sound :
The sound is pretty good you can hear the animals grunts them calling. and them herding togather the music really works well and sets a good mood with the game and when you spot a trophy the game queues very well and sets up for a great Hunt.
AI :
The a.i isn’t bad but it’s also far from great. sometimes they walk in to rocks or tree’s easly noticed. but sometimes the AI is spot on like when they group togather and you can hear them calling to others in the group.
Final thoughts :
Well if you enjoy a good hunting game this game is a good rental but it’s so short that it’s not worth the 30$ price tag but it’s a good game and easly 1000 achivement points and can be finished in about 3 hours. but the game looks good and sounds good and for a few hours of fun and 1000 achivments it’s not a bad game it’s got a lot of potential and could of been a ton better if they ditched the lead by hand style of story and gave more levels more then the 9 included and more guns to choose from and multi player Online hunts this game would of been totaly perfect. It’s a Game I would recomend to any hunting fan as rental and nothing more unless it’s droped in price. i enjoyed it and it was just far to short
